A friendly network of street art lovers are proud to announce the 2009 Street Art Awards that will take place on December the 4th. The awards will celebrate the best offerings from the urban and street art scene created between December 2008 – December 2009. The public can vote for their favorite images of the year by visiting www.streetartawards.com .
The awards ceremony will be held at a secret central north London location and will include some big name bands, games, high jinx and will involve none commercial breaks and lots of product re-placement as well as an evening full of surprises that will be announced on the run up to the event.
SHP, a charity supporting people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, believes that the arts is a key tool to increasing confidence and helping people engage with the wider community and can help make large in roads to fighting social exclusion. This is SHP’s website www.shp.org.uk .
All proceeds will be donated to SHP, which is now over 30 years old. SHP works tirelessly to prevent homelessness and promote social inclusion throughout 13 London Boroughs, working with over 2,000 people each year. The money raised will be designated entirely to support marginalised people to gain greater access to the arts. This includes providing art workshops, art materials, refreshments and putting on large scale professional art shows and events such as www.artival.co.uk to promote an inclusive art scene.
SHP receives no other funding for the Urban Arts and so the support of the general public is key to SHP to continue to create an art scene for people that may not have otherwise enjoyed one. SHP believes that the arts is a key tool to increasing confidence and helping people engage with the wider community and can help make large in roads to fighting social exclusion. Go to www.shp.org.uk for more info.
The Street Art awards along with SHP believe that it is important that a range of creative voices are heard to ensure that the wider community enjoys a truly thriving and representative art scene.

The top ten artists for both categories will be voted on a one-person one-vote basis at the awards ceremony and a Street Art and Urban Art winner will be declared with the prized street art award medals being presented to the winners. However the largest reverence is spared for the art form itself which acts as the most democratic art form there is. The Street Art Awards exists to ensure that such a worthy socially reflective art form is honoured in the only way it deserves to be, through the ballot box - whilst promoting social change at the same time.
